Cabrini Outreach is recruiting a team for the 2019 Melbourne Marathon Festival this October to raise funds for Cabrini Outreach Asylum Seeker health services, with a target of reaching $10,000.
Registrations are currently open to join the Cabrini Outreach Melbourne Marathon Festival Team. Participants can register for their chosen race at melbournemarathon.com.au and then join the Cabrini Outreach team by registering on the Cabrini Foundation website.
While team members will be participating in an array of different races at the event, they will be united in their fundraising for the many health services provided to asylum seekers by Cabrini Outreach including General Practitioners, nurse clinic, specialist mental health clinic, psychiatry, immunisation, pathology, medical imagery and pharmacy.
Cabrini supports asylum seekers in the spirit of Mother Cabrini who is the Universal Patron Saint of Immigrants. We prioritise people who do not have access to Medicare, those who may not have an income, those who are vulnerable due to previous experiences of torture and trauma and people experiencing prolonged uncertainty due to their migration status.
Over the last three years the Cabrini Outreach Asylum Seeker health Hub has treated over 500 people. Analysis has shown that patients accessing Cabrini Outreach Asylum Seeker Health services face higher levels of chronic disease, mental health diagnosis, violence and homelessness or unstable living conditions.
The 2019 Melbourne Marathon Festival will take place on Sunday 13th October in the Melbourne CBD. Those who are unable to participate in the Cabrini Outreach Melbourne Marathon Festival Team can support the team by donating to the team’s fundraising efforts at the Cabrini Foundation website.
