Development of Mental Health Tool

Cabrini Outreach has funded the development of an adult mental health screening tool considerate of the needs of asylum seekers and refugees. The aim of the screening tool  was to develop a short instrument with a high degree of sensitivity and specificity, able to be administered by non-mental health trained workers. The tool has been successful and a request has been made for the tool to be extended further into versions specific to adolescents and children.  On completion, these new tools will be made freely available.

The STAR-MH (Screening Tool for Asylum-seeker and Refugee Mental Health) is a simple mental health screening tool developed for non-mental health trained workers to identify likely post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and major depressive disorder in their asylum-seeking and new refugee clients

Prospective users will need to register via the STAR-MH website
